RIVER balloon catheter is intended for percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA), i.e., for dilating stenotic segments in coronary vessels to improve myocardial blood flow. Balloon catheter is also intended for the post-delivery expansion of a coronary stent (postdilatation).

RIVER is a Rapid Exchange (RX) coronary angioplasty catheter consists of:

  • distal part - has a dual lumen. The outer lumen is used to inflate the balloon, and the inner lumen is used for moving the catheter over a coronary guidewire. The distal section of the catheter has a hydrophilic coating. At the end of the catheter there is a semi-compliant balloon with two radiopaque markers allowing placing of the balloon in relation to treated lesion. The balloon is designed to inflate to a defined diameter at recommended pressure;
  • proximal part - consists of a stainless steel hypotube covered with fluoropolymer and a hub with a single female luer-lock connector for inflation and deflation of the balloon.

The balloon is delivered to the intended lesion site and inflated, restoring patency of the vessel.
